The goal of 2-1-1 is to help solve problems and meet the needs of southeast Alabama by connecting people with resources and services that can make a difference.
ONE CALL CAN MEAN ACCESS TO MANY SOLUTIONS
THE RESULT IS A STRONG WIREGRASS COMMUNITY
Dialing 2-1-1 connects you to a trained operator 24/7 that has access to a comprehensive database with a multitude of services in your community. By its design, the 2-1-1 system is ideally suited for serving as the single entry point for any variety of programs and for being the single contact point for information. 2-1-1 serves families from all walks of life, but most importantly benefits our most vulnerable populations such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and low-income by providing advocacy and making access to services easier. 2-1-1 is the only comprehensive information and referral system in the Wiregrass. In addition, the 2-1-1 phone line complements emergency lines by taking non-emergency calls, thus freeing emergency workers to handle real threats to life and property.
Brian Tracy said, “Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others.” Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 will connect you with opportunities to help in seven counties in southeast Alabama. By partnering with more than 870 agencies, you can help by providing donations of furniture, clothes, food, — to name a few of the items. Volunteers are also needed in your local community. Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 connects you with agencies that need your help to improve the quality of life for all, resulting in a stronger Wiregrass community.
The implementation of 2-1-1 is spearheaded by United Ways as well as information and referral agencies in states and local communities. United Way Worldwide (UWW) and the Alliance for Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) are committed to providing national leadership so that every American has access to this essential service.
The FCC designated 2-1-1 as the official number nationwide to access community information and referrals.
2-1-1 Connects Alabama is operational state-wide providing help 24/7 in all 67 counties.
As a result of a partnership between Wiregrass United Way, the Wiregrass Foundation and the Alfred Saliba Center for Families, 2-1-1 service in the Wiregrass started in July of 2008 with volunteer operators.
Presently, Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 is a stand-alone, 501(C)(3) nonprofit agency with 2 fulltime employees and volunteer operators.
